Crossing state lines

Know what they want before you're at the scale house.

Every state has its own list, and it isn't posted anywhere convenient. Most want a Coggins and a health certificate; plenty of western states want a brand inspection as well; some want a permit number you're supposed to have called ahead for.

Outbound reads your route and tells you what each state on it asks for, how recent it has to be, and who issues it — so you find out at the kitchen table rather than at an inspection station with a loaded trailer behind you.

We'll always point you at the source. Requirements change and the state is the only authority on its own rules — so every entry links to the issuing agency and shows when we last checked it. Use it to know what to ask about, not as the final word.

Where it's at

Outbound is the newest part of Outrider and it's the one that takes the longest to do properly — fifty sets of rules, each of which has to be right. We'd rather have ten states you can trust than fifty you can't.

If you cross state lines with horses regularly, we'd genuinely like to hear which routes you take and what's caught you out.
